Description:
In the Lazarus IDE the "hand point" cursor is not available for some reason. This can be seen when you navigate code in the editor (Ctrl+Right Click) or when you hover over hyperlinks like in the About dialog. Instead of the "pointing hand", LCL displays the "grabbing hand" cursor.
This is also visible in any LCL based application under Linux. For example the LHelp CHM help viewer.
I attached screenshots of them all. This problem is only related to any LCL based applications. All other Gnome & GTK2 applications on my system display the pointing hand mouse cursor correctly. For example the Gnome Help Viewer. Hyper Links in Gnome Terminal or Mozilla Firefox or Mozilla Thunderbird. They all show the pointing hand cursor correctly.
I have tested this on three separate computers, all running different versions of Ubuntu. Ubuntu 8.04.2, 9.04 and 9.10 all show the problem.
Somebody in the mailing list suggested that Ubuntu then doesn't contain a default "pointing hand" cursor. Well that is incorrect, as the other Gnome applications proved. I also used fpGUI Toolkit which talks directly to XLib. When I ask it for a pointing hand cursor, XLib displays it correctly. So it's not a limitation in Ubuntu or Gnome.
