Description:
(Windows only)
For unexperienced users it not obvious to know that you need something like primary-config-path to allow the usage of different versions in parallel. They might have a "stable" version they work with (e.g. 0.9.26), but want to test newer versions (e.g. 0.9.28). This mostly seems to end in a messed up configuration for both versions.
This almost certainly results in Lazarus being described as "crappy software" (I had this discussion at Delphi-PRAXiS some weeks ago -.-)
So there should be an option in the installer to allow a parallel installation which sets up a desktop shortcut that includes the primary-config-path and may be named with the version included (e.g. "Lazarus 0.9.28" instead of just "Lazarus") so the user's old config and shortcut won't be overwritten. This also applies to entries in Start menu.
I believe this would increase the will of less experienced users to experiment with newer versions while they know that their older version is safe.
As a "workaround" we could insert a link for the wiki page about running multiple versions at a more "popular" location of the website or even in the installer itself like
"If you want to install Lazarus parallel to another version, please read this"
PS: I didn't find the category "Installer" in the drop down...
