This should not be surprising as the code that exists in this area is commented out.
The attached patch completes the work on support of vertically aligned text for both printers and PDF - although a rather nasty hack is needed to get this working with PowerPDF. There is also an oddity with GTK2 printer canvases and vertical printing that requires both x and y co-ordinates to be shifted by the font height. Perhaps there is a bug here in the GTK2 interface as this is not required for a GTK2 screen canvas or any form of Windows Canvas.
A test application is also provided in a separate upload.
Note: the patch assumes that the patch for issue 0019508 has already been applied. This is necessary because the PDF patch affects the same function.
