Note: filed against FPC, but also relevant for Lazarus. Feel free to move.
There are many pages on the wiki claiming to describe Unicode support, all slightly different and all very unclear about even their scope.
At least to me this seems extremely unhelpful and confusing to developers, creating some repeated discussions on the lists and forums.
So far I have found:
http://wiki.freepascal.org/FPC_Unicode_support<br/>
core FPC support, contains many references to legacy versions
very confusing description of declared/dynamic code page
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Character_and_string_types
Appears to confuse charsets and encodings more than once, no mention of auto-conversion
http://wiki.freepascal.org/LCL_Unicode_Support
Its an LCL article but references *FPC* version in the cautionary header line?
Describes Utf8 function overloads that are deprecated now
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Better_Unicode_Support_in_Lazarus
many technical details
Most of these also have translations in various states of outdatedness.
