Description:
I am teaching myself Pascal and have written the simplest of programs (below).
This sort of program works fine on the Turbo Pascal 5.5 free download from the Borland Museum. It also compiles without error using the Free Pascal downloaded and installed using the latest release (version 0.99.14) from your web site (NOT a snapshot).
However, when I run the program it always recompiles and then freezes when the user screen appears. I have tried re-installing the complete file-set. I have tried installing snapshots and have tried rewriting the program.
When I run the program, if I start typing immediately the user screen comes up, it SOMETIMES doesn't crash. Mostly it freezes though. Occasionally I get the egg-timer cursor and then it freezes.
The MSDOS window will not close or return to the development interface. It can only be closed using Alt-Ctrl-Delete follwed by End Task. Windows (98, second edition on a Pentium III) remains active and functioning correctly throughout.
You will agree that this is the simplest of programs which I have seen working using another compiler. Therefore I believe there is a bug in Free Pascal.
BTW when I tried the snapshots, the MSDOS window simply dissapears after compilation is complete and I get NO error message - not even "Can't find System or Syswin32"!
Can you help please?
