Many programs from downloaded archives crash

I am using win98. CPU is P4.
I have problems with these programs:
BIN2OBJ.EXE, CMP.EXE, CP.EXE, DATA2INC.EXE, DELP.EXE, DIFF.EXE, FP.EXE, FPC.EXE, FPCMAKE.EXE, FPRCP.EXE, GDATE.EXE, GECHO.EXE, GINSTALL.EXE, GREP.EXE, H2PAS.EXE, H2PASPP.EXE, MAKE.EXE, MV.EXE, PATCH.EXE, PLEX.EXE, POSTW32.EXE, PPC386.EXE, PPDEP.EXE,
PPUDUMP.EXE, PPUFILES.EXE, PPUMOVE.EXE, PTOP.EXE, PYACC.EXE, RM.EXE, RSTCONV.EXE, UPX.EXE and ZIP.EXE.
Then I launch one of listed above it immediately crashes (an invalid page fault). Other seems to work (arw.exe, asw.exe, cpp.exe, dlltool.exe, gcc.exe, gdbpasw.exe, ldw.exe, objdumpw.exe, pwd.exe, stripw.exe, windress.exe). Whats common to crashing programs? Why they all might crash? What should I do to make them work?
It seems that only programs from gdbw32.zip and asldw32.zip work. So only gnu utils work (exception is pwd.exe). Are gnu utils written in C? All other programs are written in Pascal. Right? And they are compiled with...
